ENVIRONMENTAL AUDIT OF A PILOT PLANT FOR THE ADSORPTION OF HEAVY METALS

The Clean Alternatives Technologies Group (Grupo de Tecnologías Alternativas Limpias) or the TECALL Group of the Simón Bolívar University (USB) carried out an environmental audit of a pilot plant for the adsorption of nickel and vanadium on lignin before its installation with the purpose of identifying the possible risks and advantages for the staff, the equipment and the community in general. This audit was based on the experience of auditors and according to the national legislation that governs work conditions, use and waste disposal. This audit has been carried out according to the assessment method proposed by Leopold. Other measures have also been proposed to minimize risks, achieving an improvement of some aspects that had been considered as risk factors.
